What is a Naíonra?

The naíonra is an early-immersion setting for children aged 2 years 8 months to 5 years, supervised by an early-years teacher. Children of this age learn through play and this is done through the Irish language in a naíonra setting. (Gaeloideachas)
Does my child need to have Irish to register in the Naíonra?

Your child does not need to have Irish to attend the Naíonra. We support each child and family individually at their own level.
Is full early-immersion education in a naíonra suitable for children with additional needs?

It is. Research has proven that immersion education is suitable for children with additional educational needs and that it helps children to develop better cognitive and communication skills, as well as helping them to develop increased self-confidence and empathy. (Gaeloideachas)
What is immersion Education?
Sa mhúnla tumoideachais, foghlaimíonn daltaí gach ábhar trí mheán na teanga ainmnithe. I naíonraí lán-Ghaeilge nó i nGaelscoileanna, is í an Ghaeilge an teanga ina múintear gach ábhar nó téama agus ina ndéantar an chumarsáid ar fad. Is í an Ghaeilge teanga oibre an naíonra.
In the immersion education model pupils learn all subjects through the medium of a designated language. In Irish-medium preschools or Gaelscoileanna, Irish is the language through which all subjects or themes are taught and all communication is conducted. Irish is the working language of the preschool.
